Mirrors get easily dirty. They get smudges if you touch them, foggy with the steam from the shower, or sometimes toothpaste gets stuck on them.
The good thing about mirror cleaning is that plenty of glass cleaners can help you take on the task. However, most of these products may leave streaks when you use them, and some contain ammonia (which can cause damage to the glass).
Store-bought solutions are not the only option available! Check out these alternatives to glass cleaners and get your mirror spotless!
Alternative #1: White vinegar
White vinegar is a household product used for many cleaning chores around your home, including cleaning mirrors. The acidity of vinegar should get rid of all those dirty spots without damaging the glass. Here’s how to clean with a DIY vinegar solution:
- Pour two cups of water and one cup of white vinegar into a spray bottle.
- Spray the solution on the mirror as you would with any commercial glass cleaner.
- Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the glass surface.
Alternative #2: Dish soap and water
The vinegar solution works pretty well for cleaning surfaces. However, if you use vinegar too often, its acidity could ruin your mirror’s shine. So, if you don’t want to risk it, there is another DIY cleaning solution you can make.
Pour water and a splash of dish soap into a spray bottle or a bucket (make sure the water is hot for better results). Spray the solution on the mirrors and wipe them with a microfiber cloth, or dip it in the bucket to spread the liquid. If your mirrors get too wet, you can dry them with paper towels.
Alternative #3: Disinfecting wipes
If you’re looking to invest in a product to clean your mirrors quickly and easily, disinfecting wipes may be just what you need. These wipes are great for cleaning many dirty surfaces, including mirrors
Also, if you only need to clean a dirty spot in a pinch, you can always grab a disinfecting wipe and get rid of the dirt in a few seconds.
Alternative #4: Baby wipes
Baby wipes are an alternative to disinfecting wipes and work the same way. The difference is that they are less toxic than disinfectant wipes, so if you have small children or pets, this is a perfect option for you!
Alternative #5: Dryer sheets
Dryer sheets don’t work only for laundry! These sheets are versatile items used for many cleaning purposes around your home, including glass cleaning.
Much like the disinfecting and baby wipes, you can rub them over the mirror, or, for more stubborn grime, you can wet the sheets a little and then wipe the mirror. The fabric of these sheets is abrasive enough to remove smudges or stuck-on dirt but not too strong to damage the glass.
